We’ve all been there. Monday morning, alarm goes off. You wish for a semi catastrophic emergency so that you do not have to drag yourself out of bed at 5.30am to do a commute you hate to a job you only slightly like. Or actually dislike but you haven’t quite figured it out yet.
You go, you make as much effort as you can, you try, but deep down you can’t help wonder if it’s all worth it.
After spending a 14 months travelling, getting a job in an office seemed like the next natural progression to being a grown up. I hadn’t worked in an office long term for a while, and I thought the money would be worth it. I can’t say too much (last time I blogged about my previous career I got a snotty letter from my old company – which makes me even more glad I left, and wonder if what I said hit a nerve – oops) but all I can say is, sometimes it isn’t about the money. Unless you are getting paid absolutely millions.
Before I went on all my various travels, I worked as a Community Support Worker for adults with Learning Disabilities. I LOVED it. Unfortunately I let a silly boy upset me and wanted to leave the country as soon as I could (don’t feel sorry for me I spent 3 months in a tropical country and worked at a 5 star resort in Greece, met friends for life and found the place I call home more than the UK.) I always felt like there was something missing in my office job and I think it was being able to run around making a complete idiot of myself and get paid for it. So I took an almost 30% pay cut and got my job back.
Alright, I wont ever be rich. I wont ever have that SLK I want. I more than likely wont get my house in the Philippines within the next ten years.
But do you know what?
I wake up every morning, and I absolutely spring out of bed. I look forward to going back to work after the weekend or time off. I come home with a smile on my face. How many people can say that about their jobs?
Your job is what you do for the largest portion of your life. You are at work for a larger percentage of time than the time you spend with your family. You have to go every day.
Well…..unless you win the lottery.
Love to know your thoughts guys?
