Handbags For Hospices

In the world of Confessions Of A Sober Essex Girl, there is nothing better than a good cause. I love a good cause. It’s called a GOOD cause for a reason right?

SO imagine how surprised I was, when I came across the brilliant Handbags For Hospices and found out there was something BETTER than a good cause. Yes handbags, actual handbags with money going to good causes. Over the last 3 years, these ladies have raised an incredible 20k for UK hospices during numerous selling and swapping bag events.

As described on their website

“Handbags for Hospices is the brainchild of Abigail Bowen and Lucy Wilkes. The first pilot event was held in Brighton on 1st March 2012 and attracted over 50 women, 130 handbags and raised £2,000 for The Martlets Hospice in Hove. What started out as a one-off event is now growing beyond our wildest dreams and it is our dream to roll out the Handbags for Hospices worldwide and encourage women to get together, have fun and bid on each others handbags for charity using the Handbags for Hospices concept. We’ve been on BBC Radio and in local and national press. We’ve had celebrity support from Davina McCall, Zoe Ball, Paloma Faith, Kim Wilde, Elizabeth Hurley and Millie Mackintosh amongst others. As well as countless businesses donating prizes or giving their time to help us out. Not to mention all those women who have bid and dug deep into the back of their wardrobes to give us their handbags of course. We believe that Handbags for Hospices offers limitless possibilities for individuals, retailers and designers to get involved and help support the amazing work done by hospices every single day.”

Steaming forward at an alarming rate, they have just persuaded Celia Birtwell, whose name you will probably recognize from her recent Valentino collection, to design 100 leather satchels for them, which were made by the Leather Satchel company.

You can get your hands on one here: http://www.leathersatchel.com/products/12-5-inch/the-leather-satchel-co-x-celia-birtwell-satchel/ and hospices will receive a massive 50% of the sale price.
