I know I know, it seems like I’m getting in on this one way early. I mean, we haven’t even had Christmas yet. But you DO all remember Christmas right? You know, Christmas, that thing you prepare for, for months, which is over in a flash. Before you know it you have had your yearly viewing of Love Actually seen what the old bint has got to say in her yearly speech and finished all of the Turkey and Quality Street over a four day period.
So then comes New Year. New Years Eve, massive waste of time, horrendous four day hangover and then YES, it’s that time ultra-motivated you comes out and decides to make lots of promises you won’t keep. It’s usually the same offenders year after year. Stop being cringe after a drink. Stop classing strawberry bon-bons as one of your five a day. Stop kissing randomers on Friday nights (that one just me then, whoops). Lose weight. Be nicer to people. Stop being late.
When I was going through my list, it hit me, the reason I NEVER keep these resolutions is because they are the same. Year after year. Let’s face it if I couldn’t get my fat arse in the gym in 2009 I’m not going to in 2016 am I? So this year, I’ve had a complete overhaul. My resolutions are going to be fun things that will help me be happier.
- To learn Spanish.
Considering I tell everyone who will listen that I’m moving to Marbella when I’m 30, its quote surprising that I don’t know a word of Spanish. Maybe I know how to ask where the exits are. That’s about it. Seeing as I am going back for May Bank Holiday, I aim to at least be able to order some food. Even if it’s food I don’t like. Luckily a lot of people in Marbella speak English, but let’s face it after a few cava’s I don’t so learning Spanish would be a right touch.
- To get back to the Philippines
In 2012, I went to the Philippines for 3 months, and it was the best 3 months of my life. I aimed to go back the year after. Then after that. Then unfortunately, being an adult with a job and a massive fear of flying got in the way of me visiting my favourite place on earth. Not this year. I am hoping to go back for two weeks in September, and although that it not a long time to stay for the length of the flight hopefully I’ll be so balls deep in vodka and amitriptyline I won’t even be aware I’m on a plane.
- To gain at least one investor for my company
On the whole, my company is doing amazing. For someone who can’t even butter bread, I look back at this year and can’t believe what I’ve achieved. I started in May and have so far had 6 clients either having monthly digital marketing or one off campaigns. But next year, I need to start actually being a more adultier adult and think about the bigger picture. Eventually, I want to be able to do this for a living full time. This means a staff team, an office and loads of other things that I need to think about.
- To do a Yoga instructors course
This may shock all of you, especially those that know me and know how hyperactive I am, but I actually LOVE yoga. Ok, maybe the relaxation and meditation parts of it are not a bit of me, but I can downward dog with the best of them!
So there you have it. I’d love for you all to share your New Years Resolutions in the comments. Meet me back here at the end of 2016 and we’ll see how we got on.
Love to know your thoughts guys?
